Sir Surendranath Banerjea (November 10, 1848 – August 6, 1925) needs no introduction as a great patriot, political leader, orator, teacher, educationist and journalist. ‘Rastraguru’ Surendranath Banerjea established Surendranath Law College at the heart of Kolkata city, near Sealdah Station in 1884-85. This is a reflection of his illuminating vision to make quality education accessible to all, by strategically establishing the campus at a distance that is easily commutable by train. As the founder of this prestigious institution, his noble idea of bringing higher education within the reach of the widest possible sections of the society continues to remain the guiding motto of the college. His profound thought of encouraging more students, especially those belonging to the down-trodden community, to partake of quality education speaks volumes about his commitment as a fine educationist and a personification of the guardian of human values and social justice.

VISION

Surendranath Law College seeks to impart and advance quality legal education by engaging in teaching and dissemination of legal knowledge. The academic programmes and activities of the college are prepared and executed keeping in mind the values enshrined in the vision of our founder Sir Surendranath Banerjee. This has developed among students a sense of responsibility to serve the society in the field of law.

The mission of Surendranath Law College is to facilitate the dissemination of legal education of the highest standards to its students on the implications and applications of law within changing social context. The college aims to achieve the following as a part of its noble academic mission
